Technip SPYRO™ Planning and Scheduling Link

SPSL
Technip Spyro continues through the Pyrotec division to drive the simulation of the steam cracking process to create ethylene from gas and naththa feedstreams in pyrolysis furnaces. SPYRO, simulates the cracking process inside the radiant coils of the furnace. SPYRO is licensed mainly to ethylene producers and the program is used by approximately 80% of all ethylene producers world-wide. For an operating company, SPYRO can be applied in several ways:
- planning and scheduling including valuation of available feedstocks on the spot market.
- off-line tool for case studies such as furnace operability studies.
- on-line yield model in an advanced process control system.
- on-line yield model in a (closed loop) real time optimization system.
Since there are many furnaces in an ethylene plant, scheduling many furnaces simulataneously is a difficult job. Pyrotec developed a tool to provide easy access and integration with SPYRO to make the excellent pyrolysis simulation available for planning and scheduling. This tool is named SPYRO Planning and Scheduling Link (SPSL).
At M3, through our agreement with Technip, we construct a managed code wrapper that brings the intelligence into our .NET enviroment and integrates the results of the simulation via web services with our other plant models. M3 uses SPYRO Planning and Scheduling Link to the ethylene cracking furnace models for furnace scheduling and naphtha blending.
Significant potential benefits exist for advanced multi-period optimization of the naphtha blends being feed to the many pyrolysis furnaces. Each furnace can be feed with the optimum feed for its current operating condition. The advanced scheduling technology uses individual furnace yields to schedule operation of each furnace while accounting for production constraints and maintenance schedules. The complete application allows schedulers and planners to quickly and accurately run What-If cases to evaluate various operating alternatives to make correct decisions. These tools minimize the guessing of what to do and allow plant managers to make quick command decisions.
SIMTO ethylene plant solution will provide an integrated system to help plan and schedule production that meets management's requirements and increases shareholders' return on investments. The solution is comprehensive and extensible. SIMTO Scheduling simplifies scheduling with flowsheets to model manufacturing processes, Gantt charts to arrange operational activities, and case comparisons to evaluate various what-if operating scenarios. SIMTO Scheduling solution will help make difficult and time-constrained decisions regarding unprecedented changes in naphtha feedstock costs. SIMTO Scheduling simulates the impact of feedstock quality and composition changes on the furnace yields. M-Blend optimizes multiple naphtha blends over multiple periods to minimize costs and to maximize process stability.
